Rusted display stand/錆びた展示台
２週間ほど、毎日、霧吹きをかけてサビを育てました。天板の板は、2枚の古材の板を使っています。継ぎ目を半分の位置ではなく、7:3くらいの場所にしてあります。割合に意味があるわけではなく、美しい方の古材を切らずに使い、余った幅にはめ込んだのでこうなりました。
古材は”端が美しい”と思うし、2枚とも切ってちょうど半分という”納まりの良さ”はちょっと違うのではないかと。納まりの美しさ、比率における美しさ、素材感の美しさがあって、サビの育て具合以上に、悩んだのが継ぎ目だったという話でした。

Every day for around two weeks I sprayed the stand with an Insta-rust solution.The top plate uses two reclaimed wood boards. The seam is not centered. They’re at at ratio of about 7:3, but this wasn’t a predetermined number. I just kept the width of the original material as I found it, cutting the second piece to size. This is the balance that eventuated. I think that old material has character in the edge, simply cutting both pieces in half results in a loss of some of the aesthetic strength of the wood. It’s been said that there is a beauty in fitting, a beauty in proportion, and a beauty of texture.
